A Year In The Sandbox

I was under the impression that there wasn’t much hostility in Afghanistan anymore and the fighting was pretty much contained to Iraq. A couple things in the news recently have been a bit of a wake-up call, though. At the beginning of the month 2 US Soldiers were killed by an IED in the same city I’m going to! Then today on cnn.com there’s this article: Dozens die as battle rages in Afghanistan At least this battle is taking place a little ways away from where I’m going, but it’s still disconcerting. I didn’t expect it to be “safe” over there by any means, but I didn’t realize there was still this much violence.

I’m still looking forward to going, though!
