Quick Update

Posted May 24th, 2009 by Mike

Everything’s going good here, we’re in the home stretch now. My shop got reorganized and I don’t have an office anymore since all I really do is the convoys. Unfortunately that means I don’t have internet access on my laptop anymore so it’s a little tougher to update now. I’m going to try tomorrow to get some videos that I’ve taken uploaded, there are some good ones. We spent a day out in the middle of nowhere last week just blowing stuff up.

Nine months from today I’ll be out of the Air Force! A couple weeks short of 11 years in the service and I’m punching out. I’m really excited about it, I’ll be going to school full time and hopefully not working at all for a couple years. I’m looking forward to being a bum.

Check back tomorrow, if I’m not too lazy there’ll be some good videos.

    Hey,
Great to hear from you! In putting two and two together, I can finally figure out how my son is! Thank you so much!!
I am glad you are getting out of the service. I certainly hope you will entertain the idea of publishing a book with those great pics you have taken. I am suggesting to ‘Ellen” that she have you and several others on her show.. many months from now after everyone is situated. You have NO idea how much support you have back here in the states..WHY, just the other day, I received 10 patriotic pillows from the UPS guy. I assured the owner that I would give them to the people who deserve them.I also told the owner that every person in Afghanistan deserves more than just a patriotic pillow . She told me she knows. I will need your addy after this is done, Mike to mail one to you.. May God’s hedge of protection continue to embrace you , my son, and every person in the armed forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. We look forward to your boots touching American soil. It will be One heck uv a party!!! God Speed John Glenn: make sure you tell my son I said that! Thank you so much for these great sacrifices that you have done to allow me to be able to drive to the local mall without worry of an IED .. You are greatly appreciated as well as all others in Afghanistan and Iraq! Hang in there..

    Clarification

“Every person in Afghanistan and all others in Afghanistan and Iraq ” mean every person in the armed forces: army, navy, marines, air force, special ops, etc

Thought I would clarify that in case some person (idiot) can’t figure that out.. And Mike you have dealt with idiots before lol Did you ever hear from that idiot??

On the downhill side with only nine months to go – that all sounds good. Nine months will go by before you know it. The weather is finally warming up here in OK. We spent Saturday at the lake with kayaks and our catamaran. There was not enough wind for the cat, but we did some biking around the lake. Jesse shot some funny video of our trip over at http://www.skybag.blogspot.com if you have time for silliness. Someday, we would like to drag the kayaks down to the Guadalupe – maybe when you get home this fall…

We’ve missed you but glad to know you are well. My pen pal who is stationed in Afghanistan thinks he may be heading home about 4 months earlier than planned in order to make room for all the new folks headed your way. Hope the same happens for you. Get yourself stateside in one big safe piece! Then start school and blog all about what it’s like to be an x-air force dude in school. :)

Eleven years? It does not seem like it since you left for San Antonio that first time. Good God a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then! Reading the other comments I think a book would be a good idea and I know you have the talent to do that. This blog (when udated) has been very interesting. I know from our private messaging that it has not always been an enjoyable thing to continue. Hope the time glides on by and you get home _HOME_ to NC.
This being Memorial Day let me say Thank You for your service to our country. Look forward to a visit with you. Dave and Maci say hello.

All who read Mike’s blog please say a prayer for the families of our brothers and sister from PRT Panjshir. They lost 3 today to a svbied on a convoy to Bagram. The gunner survived and he is doing well considering the situation. I talked to him today at the ICU, we had a quick prayer. Keep up the good work Mike and yes you can keep the jackets!!

Will say many prayers for gunner and all families involved. Just hate losing our good men and women. Heart breaking.. May God continue to keep a hedge of protection around Mike, my son, and every person in the armed forces in AFghanistan until he/she is safely in the United States.
